Shiny, Sparkly

Karen and I finally got around to our long-delayed shopping trip, and it was so much fun that I can’t wait to do it again. After lunch at the Kona Grill, we hit the Temple of Shoes, which was the high point of the trip for me. We tried on various pairs of shiny, sparkly shoes and commiserated about the lack of availability of small sizes and the fact that boots are only made for flamingo women. The main object of the trip, a summer party dress for me, was a total wash despite heroic efforts on Karen’s part. However, when we got back to my house and started going through the closet, we found something that will suit quite well indeed. I could even wear my shiny, sparkly new shoes with it.

Hope you didn’t pay with a credit card!
For what occasion is the summer dress?

Paid with cash, fortunately…this time. The occasion is the thank-you party for everyone who helped move the Parasitic Housemate out.

We’ll save some virtual spirits for you, then.

[...] As our last shoe-mocking -shopping trip was such a rousing success, Karen and I headed out once more to the Temple of Shoes. She came away with not-black shoes that she can wear to work, and I, once more, went for the utterly impractical—high heeled sandals in a sparkly red and gold brocade. We saw some winter-breeding shoes that say “fuck me,” but not to humans (tweed flowers grafted onto them; I kid you not), as well as some of the breeds that had apparently been selected against, languishing in a lonely corner of clearance. We also saw some shoes with identity crises, shoes that had been assmebled by ferrets (random collection of sparkly and furry things attached) and some acid-green shoes with a 3D collage featuring a stuffed-felt strawberry, peach, and onion. We also cruised by a purse that was entirely made of faux fur, causing Karen to wonder aloud if one might find its last meal inside. [...]
