Hands On
Over the weekend, I completed my Level 2 yoga teacher training. As always, eighteen hours is a lot of yoga for one weekend, and I’m tired. But, again as always, it was a great experience and well worth it. The master classes were challenging without being overwhelming, although I did choose to take it easy on the second day. We learned a few new poses, some breathing techniques, discussed chakras, and learned how to do hands-on adjustments of students. That’s a huge benefit; mostly, I prefer to use verbal cues, but sometimes there’s nothing like being able to move a student into a better and safer alignment.
One of the things I enjoy most about the trainings is the opportunity to meet other teachers and steal borrow their best material. This particular group was the smallest I’ve been in; eleven of us started and nine finished (we lost two people to personal business). I was happy to have the opportunity to spend more time with each of the other students (we spent a lot of time working in small groups).
The best part is that now that I’ve completed levels one through three, I feel like a real yoga teacher. Part of that is probably because this is the first training I’ve gone to when I’ve actually been teaching. And I can’t wait to share some of the things I’ve learned with my students.
