Student Teaching, Week 4, Take 2

This was something of a frustrating class for me. Participation was low, both in that fewer people than usual showed up for the class at all, and the ones who showed up did less. I had gotten some feedback that some of the students were frustrated because they found the class difficult, and I had tried to do as many easy and seated poses as possible, as there are usually a few people who prefer to sit in a chair for the class. On the other hand, there’s only so easy that I can make it. I’m really feeling the lack of information that I’m told is taught at the prenatal/postpartum seminar; apparently, many of the same modifications apply to people who need to adjust for their weight. Furthermore, after having been very involved in the last class or two, there was a lot more distraction and disruption than I’d hoped for. I think that having a two-week gap between the last two classes (the first because of Thanksgiving and the second because of bad weather) has been fairly detrimental. I’d really like to get back to the every-week schedule and stick to it for the next four classes. That gets me done with my student teaching by mid-January, which is more than enough lead time to get my paperwork done.

However, there was one bright spot at the end; one of the students told me that she felt as though she was starting to get the hang of yoga, and did I have any videos out? It’s nice to know that I can fake the level of experience that it would take to be at that level, but I was even happier to hear that at least one person felt she was starting to feel the benefits of the class. That makes it worthwhile.
