Level 4
Not only did I live to tell the tale, I loved it. I was intimidated going in—because the school I am in is yoga for the fitness industry, there are a lot of personal trainers, group fitness instructors, and very, very fit people in the classes. I didn’t know if I could do 2 1/2 to 3 hours of yoga every morning for four mornings in a row. As it turns out, I can, and I kinda miss it. I had one morning when I had a bit of leg cramping, but I was able to work thorugh it, and by day four, I felt like I was finally hitting my stride.
I even almost got into Eight-Angle pose—without Photoshop!
I chose Hood River, Oregon for my training for a couple of reasons. One was the fact that my brother lives in nearby Portland. The other was because I wanted to take Level 4 from Stephanie Adams. Stephanie did my first Level 3 training, and I can’t say enough good things about both her, and her co-trainer and business partner, Sybil Nance. The two of them work amazingly well together, mostly because each complements the other’s strengths and abilities.
In addition to the physical postures, we also studied anatomy (including a sneak preview of the nifty book I must acquire if I wish to take the specialized anatomy class for continuing education credits), Sanskrit (using a nifty book that I did acquire), yoga history and philosophy, kirtan, and mudras. I had a great time doing a semi-improvised Sherlock Holmes skit on the anatomy of twists with four of the other students. (We finished our presentation and Stephanie said “I don’t know what I could possibly add to that.”)
As much as they crammed into this training, the biggest thing I got out of it is enough interest in enough areas to keep me in CECs for years, if not decades. Oh, and the credits for my RYT-200, of course. I’ve got two essays to do (one down, one to go) and the anatomy workbook to complete for Level 4. Then, one more weekend (the first one in November) and it’s all done except for the application paperwork.
Squeee!!!
